## When a line sticks, 93% of nurses improvise. Workarounds raise infection risk.

When a connection won't come apart, nurses reach for gloves, tape, or hemostats that often go from patient to patient without being disinfected. These workarounds can crack the hub, damage the line and put patients at risk of infection.

## Frequently asked questions about Yewtwist

### What is Yewtwist?

Yewtwist is a hand tool that nurses, dialysis staff and patients use to disconnect IV, dialysis and feeding connections with ease. Its soft elastomer jaws grip the body of the connector without damaging the line, so stuck connections come apart in one twist.

### Does Yewtwist fit Luer lock and ENFit connectors?

Yes. Yewtwist works on Luer lock connections on IV and central lines, PICCs and needleless connectors, and on ENFit feeding tubes and NG tubes. It also fits hemodialysis bloodlines and peritoneal dialysis connections, with three jaw sizes to fit most connector types.

### Why do Luer connections get stuck?

Luer connections can become tight or stuck for several reasons:

- They were overtightened during setup.
- Medication or formula has dried on the threads.
- TPN residue has built up.
- The cleaning agent was not completely dry when a new connection was attached.

### When should I use Yewtwist?

Yewtwist can be used every time you disconnect a line, not only when a connection is stuck. This puts less strain on your hands and wrists.

### Should each patient have their own Yewtwist?

Yes. Dedicate one Yewtwist to each patient for the full course of their therapy, kept at the bedside or with the patient’s own supplies. Clean it before and after each use. Replace it when the jaws show wear or on the schedule in the instructions for use, about every 2 to 3 months.

### How do I clean Yewtwist?

Yewtwist is nonsterile. Clean it before and after each use with a hospital-grade disinfectant wipe, following the instructions for use, which also cover inspection and replacement.

### How do I get a free trial for my unit?

Fill in a [short form](https://yewtwist.com/trial?hsLang=en) about your care team and book a call with us. We will send you a few units and explain what a successful trial looks like.

### Can I use Yewtwist to Spike an IV bag?

Yes! You can also use it to steady an IV or nutrition bag port while you spike the bag.

**Read the instructions for use.** Yewtwist is a nonsterile hand tool for disconnecting IV, dialysis and feeding connections. See the instructions for use for directions, warnings, cleaning and replacement.

**Single patient use.** Dedicate one Yewtwist to each patient for the full course of their therapy. Clean it before and after each use, and replace it when the jaws show wear or on the schedule in the instructions for use.

Statements about infection risk refer to the situations that raise it, such as damaged lines, improvised tools and hand contact at the open end of the line. Yewtwist has not been shown to reduce infection rates.

Testimonials and case studies reflect individual experiences. Results can vary. Results labelled “Yewtwist nurse survey” come from surveys run by Yewtwist.
